Ray's Blues

Gliding softly, surgical, through ivory
and ebony keys – brown sugar bourbon
lacquers a raspy hum. Kisses of honey
rum wade under cobalt blues, seditious
whines of groveling brass.
Pandemonic bliss rests beneath breaths
of the benevolent wisps suspended
in euphoria. Choirs of agony wept their
lamentations, bronze glistening.
Sable rapture trembled from the palm
of silence, an empty, studded chalice.
Thundering elixir frothed and quaked,
gratefully drowning – melancholy melted
sacrilegious ears and still, Ray played.
