Journal Entry - Media Consumption

I find that media consumption in my generation is pretty similar, especially in overlapping cultural circles. We tend to take to Twitter for our news as it provides the quickest way to communicate and find news. We are also less likely to trust traditional news sources like our parents. Outlets like Fox News and TMZ, since they rely on "alternative facts" and speculation, tend to be deemed untrustworthy. Additionally, the nature of instant gratification makes social media a place for easier consumption.

I often ask myself if there will ever be a reversion back to traditional news with all the other kinds of journalism present today that makes news easier to consume. With this, will we ever see newspaper come back? Along with these things comes the idea of attention span and the sociological and psychological effect of shortening our attention spans as a result of instant gratification.

My last thoughts on are on the superficial nature on entertainment. I've never been the one for reality tv, though millions of people like it. How did these sorts of shows, like The Kardashians, evolve out of traditional news media? The focal point of entertainment, before the modern era, wasn't hyper-focused on the minute moves of celebrities. Would actors like Cary Grant become the enigmas they were then, today?
